The Legend

Koh Phra Thong is named after a local legend of a buried treasure. Somewhere on the island is a Golden Buddha supposedly buried. Years ago a band of pirates buried a golden Buddha statue at an undisclosed location on the island. There have been several attempts to find the treasure, but it is still hidden somewhere in the dense jungle - or maybe closer to the beach.

The spirit of past adventures and discovery still attracts the few people who find their way to this legendary island

Wildlife Island Charm

It has mangrove forests and golden sandy beaches. The Island is the habitat of diverse wildelife - birds, turtoises and exotic orchids not found elsewhere.

The island is one of Thailand's last unspoiled coastal locations with almost 20 kilometers of golden beaches - giving visitors a chance to find a location to get away from it all.

The three local villages are populated by Thais, Moklen sea nomads who for hundred of years have roamed the Thai and Burmese waters and Moken sea gypsies.  The local villagers continue to this day to live a traditional life based on fishing. It is also possible to arrange for home stays and take local cooking courses.

Golden Buddha Beach

One of the most splendid beaches, Golden Buddha Beach, is more than 10 kilometers long and stretches from the South West tip of Koh Phra Thong up to the middle part of the island. This is a deserted beach with just a few smaller resorts, among them the Golden Buddha Beach Resort.

Accommodations

Golden Buddha Beach Resort offers unique and individually designed beach front bungalows - 10 to 20 meters away from the beach. Choose from Super Deluxe Beach bungalows to premier beachfront luxury houses.
